Five study programmes in one new centre
JCVU, based in Aarhus, is a recently established centre for educational and health training, knowledge development and research.

The following colleges and schools of higher education are behind the centre, which was opened on 1 January 2002:

· The School for Medical Laboratory Technologists in Aarhus
· The School of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy in Aarhus
· Peter Sabroe Seminariet – The National Institute for Social Educators
· The Jutland College for Social Care and Education, National Institute
· Aarhus University College of Education

Furthermore, the local branch of The Danish University of Education contributes with its broad-based experience in further education within the educational area. The individual education institutes are briefly described below.

In 2002 and 2003, the centre will establish a new joint department for further education and research-development-evaluation. As from 2004, the educational institutes and the joint department will merge into JCVU, forming a single institution.

In time, student numbers at the fully established JCVU will equate to 4,500 student work years, i.e. if all the students are converted to full-time students, and JCVU will have a staff of around 460. Thus, the centre has both considerable human and professional resources that can contribute to providing East Jutland with a power centre within the educational and health-related fields.

The main task of the centre is to offer both basic and further education programmes within the educational and health-related fields. This comprises both short programmes and formal one-year degrees as well as training teachers for adult education.

In the long term, JCVU will be involved in the strengthening and development of the individual education programmes, including their international profiles.
The School for Medical Laboratory Technologists in Aarhus
The school is a good study environment in the centre of Aarhus. The programme takes three and a half years of which period a third is spent in hospital laboratories. One hundred and twenty students are admitted every year. After having attended the medical laboratory technologist programme, the students may move on to the one-year degree which is an extension of the basic training programme. The programme qualifies the students for jobs as head medical laboratory technologists and medical laboratory technology teachers.
The School of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy in Aarhus
The school is situated in the northern part of the city close to the woods and the beach.
The occupational therapy and physiotherapy bachelor degrees take three and a half years. Eighty-eight students are admitted every year for each programme, which start either at the end of August or the beginning of February. Both programmes have theoretical and practical elements. The school cooperates with a number of similar institutions in Europe as well as in other parts of the world.

Furthermore, the college offers the possibility of further specialization in an international class and in a health-physical education class. Since the college has many international contacts, the students are encouraged to work or study abroad. The multi-cultural work and the cross-cultural study environment are also part of the profile of the college.
The Jutland College for Social Care and Education, National Institute
The college, which is the largest college of social education in Denmark, is a dynamic training environment for pedagogics and social educators. Values such as democracy, cultural diversity, commitment and tolerance are in focus.

Programmes offered are the three-and-a-half-year bachelor degree in education (350 students admitted) and the three-and-a-half-year programme including practical training (60 students admitted).
Aarhus University College of Education
The University College offers a high-quality bachelor degree in teacher training.
The programme takes four years, and 375 students are admitted every year. A total of 1,400 students attend the University College.

The design and contents of the programme are continuously adjusted in order to ensure that the current needs of the profession are always being met. Forming a relationship based on equality, teachers and students work together in decentralised self-governing units in order to match the working conditions of teachers in schools today.

The University College employs 110 academic teachers and is housed in two buildings at Trøjborg and Katrinebjerg.
Peter Sabroe Seminariet - The National Institute for Social Educators
The college is an exciting and innovative place of education in the centre of Aarhus. Programmes offered are the three-and-a-half-year full-time bachelor degree in education and the three-year programme including practical training (especially for Open University). The college is one of the most popular schools in Denmark with approximately 900 students, and it is known for its large-scale cultural projects (for example in connection with the Aarhus Festival).

The college is part of a major international network of schools, and thus students have the option of working or studying in Europe or in other parts of the world.
