Klüvers Big Band

Klüvers Big Band

Klüvers Big Band was started by a group of young music students in 1977. Twenty-five years later, still under the direction of Jens Klüver, the big band can count some of the finest musicians in Denmark among its members.

In 1988, the big band was appointed as the country’s first non-classical ensemble to receive permanent financial support from national, county and municipal authorities. This support has ensured the band good working conditions and has facilitated ongoing musical development, placing Klüvers Big Band among the most respected larger orchestras in Denmark.
Klüvers Big Band has, since its inception, worked with numerous guest soloists from Denmark and abroad, all of whom have contributed to the Big Band’s musical inspiration. Today, Klüvers Big Band is known not only for its eminent playing, but also as an orchestra which has retained its enthusiasm and love for the music it performs.

The Big Band plays a wide repertoire of music, with an emphasis on contemporary big band music which, while referring to traditional big band music, incorporates elements of modern jazz. A large part of the band's repertoire has been composed and/or arranged specifically for Klüvers Big Band.

Klüvers Big Band considers the mediating of big band music to as broad a public as possible as a vital part of their wide-ranging activities.

Klüvers Big Band is not only an orchestra which gives approximately 50 concerts a year, its members also teach in elementary and secondary schools in addition to cooperating regularly with the local music schools.

The big band also shares its many contacts with other orchestras and educational institutions.
