Jyllands-Posten – local, national, international
|
Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten, Denmark's largest daily newspaper with a circulation of 179,962 on weekdays and 243,492 on Sundays, is located in Århus.
Longstanding and historic ties exist between Jyllands-Posten and Århus as, at the time of its founding in October 1871, the newspaper was housed in modest offices in the street of Frederiksgade. However, that is a long time ago. In 1964, the newspaper moved to new, purpose-built premises in Viby in the south of Århus. Today, Jyllands-Posten is no longer a regional newspaper, but Denmark's unquestionably largest and only truly national newspaper.

Since March 1998, Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten has offered readers and advertisers in the Århus area a special service. JP Århus, with a circulation of 42,250 on weekdays and 56,175 on Sundays, is published with Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten in Greater Århus and neighbouring districts. In other words, in addition to the solid local newspaper readers also receive Denmark’s International Newspaper.
Since January 1996, Jyllands-Posten has also offered Internetavisen Jyllands-Posten, not only an electronic version of the print edition but a news service as well, updating news around the clock, elaborating on events and offering background material. Furthermore, it features audio and video clips. With 400,000 page impressions daily Internetavisen Jyllands-Posten is one of the most popular news sites in Denmark competing with commercial websites such as Jubii, Sol, Opasia and the Kraks Vejviser Directory.

The justification of Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten lies in its unconditional journalistic credibility – primarily deriving from the financial, political and organisational independence stipulated in the trust deed of the Jyllands-Posten Foundation. The trust deed requires the Foundation “through the possession of shares in Jyllands-Posten A/S to support the aforesaid company in publishing Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten as a liberal newspaper independent of private, business, organisational or party-political interests”.
Every day an editorial staff of 200 provides news, information, entertainment and background material for readers.
Jyllands-Posten is Denmark's most frequently quoted newspaper.

Moreover, every year the Laust Jensen Prize – a prize of honour – is bestowed upon a colleague who has made a special journalistic effort.
Journalistic credibility and independence are the hallmarks of Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten. No one can obtain influence on the editorial line of Jyllands-Posten by financial means, and no one is above the critical reporting of Jyllands-Posten.
