All Danish citizens receive letters from KMD

Spanien (Spain) is in Århus. No, it’s not a bad joke. It’s actually true, and it explains why Kommunedata A/S’s new department in Århus since June 2001 could in fact be based at Spanien 19. Spanien is a street name, and it goes back to when Spanish mercenaries established quarters here in 1808.

KMD’s move to the newly renovated, modernistic property in the harbour area is a return to the capital of Jutland after a temporary absence that followed from the company selling its health section, which is now an independent business. In so doing, KMD is once again represented in all the largest Danish university towns, thereby ensuring access to qualified recruitment within the IT industry.

KMD, which is owned by Local Government Denmark (Kommunernes Landsforening), is one of the largest IT companies in Denmark and is the chief provider of IT to the country’s 275 municipalities and fourteen counties. In addition, many private companies, organisations and associations draw on KMD’s expertise.

The extent of KMD’s combined activities is evident from the fact that every Dane receives an average of six letters a year from the company containing tax statements, child benefit payments and possibly a reminder from the local library. KMD has also developed the website NetBorger.dk with nationwide information and direct links to the municipalities.

As a result of its newly developed business strategy, KMD is now divided into six core areas: From Law to IT Solutions, Administrative IT, Technology and IT Management, Customer Services, Electronic Public Service Systems and Sales.
The department in Århus has a staff of 130 who, among other things, look after the running and development of IT systems for the Municipality of Århus.
